To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his answer of 3 February 1998,Official Report, column 570, how much the United Kingdom has made available for assistance to Asian countries through the international financial institutions to help them deal with economic instability; and what the extent of the United Kingdom's financial commitments is in this respect.

No additional funds have been made available to the international financial institutions for this purpose. The loans disbursed through these institutions have been funded from their existing resources which include contributions from all their members.
