Mr. Austin-Walker
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he made to the Parliamentary Commissioner for external appointments regarding recent appointments and re-appointments to the Commission for Racial Equality. [19312]

Mr. Kirkhope
We made contact with the Commissioner for Public Appointments to clarify the acceptability of a reappointment which I considered desirable.

Mr. Austin-Walker
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will require appointees or re-appointees to the Commission for Racial Equality to declare their political affiliation. [19313]

Mr. Kirkhope
We will follow the Commissioner for Public Appointments' guidance on appointments to executive non-departmental public bodies and national health service bodies which states that records should be keptof the political activities of candidates for appointment in so far as they are a matter of public record".

Mr. Austin-Walker
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if appointments and re-appointments to the Commission for Racial Equality are made in accordance with the Nolan rules for appointments to public bodies. [19311]
