To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the applications by power generating companies under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 that have been referred to a public inquiry(a) directly by his Department or (b) as a result of a decision by a local authority; and if he will list the length of time between the referral and the completion of the public inquiry in each case.

Pursuant to the Electricity Generating Stations and Overhead Lines (Inquiries Procedure) Rules 1990, SI 1990 No. 528 a period of not less than six weeks from the announcement of an inquiry being made to it opening must be given in order to allow for the serving of statements of case.
