§ Mr. Wareing
To ask the Secretary of State for Education what changes in the history curriculum of schools she plans to make to ensure that children have an understanding of the background to, and the conduct of, the second world war; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. Forth
The second world war will continue to occupy a prominent role within the national curriculum for history, as it has always done. Under the new history curriculum, which will be taught in schools from next September, all 11o 14-year-olds in maintained schools will have to be taught about the second world war and its legacy for Britain and the world. The choice of teaching materials is a matter for individual schools and teachers.
