§ Mr. Pike
To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) when he proposes to meet the chairman of the National Blood Authority to discuss the future of the service; and if he will make a statement.
(2) what changes have taken place in the past 12 months in each blood service centre in its (a) staffing (b) service provided; and when he proposes to announce the future pattern of service provision by the national blood transfusion service.
§ Mr. Sackville
Ministers have regular meetings with the chairman of the National Blood Authority. Staffing of the national blood service and details of services provided by each blood centre are a matter for that authority.
The National Blood authority has undertaken a thorough and widespread consultation on its proposals. The authority's revised proposals have recently been submitted and are being studied carefully. An announcement will be made in due course.
