To ask the President of the Board of Trade, how many civil servants in his Department are working on matters related to the Scott inquiry, if a dedicated unit has been established; and what is the estimated cost to date of civil servants dealing with matters relating to the Scott inquiry.

[holding answer 15 June 1995]: A Scott inquiry unit was established in DTI in December 1992. Currently the unit consists of two posts. The approximate cost of the unit to date, excluding the cost of the provision of papers, is £247,000.
