§ Ms Short
To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what responsibility the Birminghan training and enterprise council has to ensure that all young people in the youth training guarantee group receive a training allowance up to their 18th birthday; how this responsibility 531W will be met if local training providers are not paid by Birmingham TEC to provide allowances after 17-year-olds have reached NVQ level 2; and if he will make a statement.
§ Miss Widdecombe
I understand that Birmingham training and enterprise council acknowledges its responsibility to ensure that all young people in the youth training guarantee group receive a training allowance up until their 18th birthday. For the 1994–95 financial year it will be a contractual requirement for the TEC's training providers to ensure that young people are able to remain in training and in receipt of a training allowance until their 18th birthday. The TEC will pay all training providers a contribution towards the training allowance and trainee support costs.
