I have no plans to ban the use of this additive. Sodium hexacyanoferrate is permitted by the Miscellaneous Additives in Food Regulations (as amended). It was last evaluated by the Committee on the Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COT) as an anti-caking agent in salt in 1988. The COT confirmed that sodium hexacyanoferrate was provisionally acceptable for use in food pending the submission of further studies. These studies have now been carried out and will be reviewed by the COT when full details have been submitted.
