To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many pupils have attended Wolverhampton grammar school under the assisted places scheme since the scheme's inception; what was the cost to the state of those 31W places; and if he will give the usual place of residence of pupils attending the school under the APS listed by parliamentary constituency and local government ward.

Nearly 460 pupils have benefited from assisted places at Wolverhampton grammar school since the scheme was established in 1981. In 1992–93 there were 256 assisted pupils and the cost to public funds was £760,000. Schools participating in the scheme are not required to supply data concerning pupils' residence and the Department does not hold any such information centrally.
