§ Mr. Moynihan
Savings in carbon dioxide emissions from wind power will depend on both the total annual output from the wind turbines and the kind of fuel displaced. On the assumption that coal fired generation was displaced 50 MW of wind power in typically windy sites for the United Kingdom might be expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 100,000t/year. A larger wind power capacity would increase the savings pro rata.
The energy technology support unit estimates that each kilowatt hour of electricity generated from wind turbines saves about 850 grammes of carbon dioxide from a similar output of coal-fired generation.
