§ Mr. Thurnham
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many adoptions have been approved by his Department for parents wishing to adopt Romanian children; how many have been turned down; how many are in the process of application; and if he will make a statement on adoptions from other countries.
§ Mr. Peter Lloyd
Since December 1989, 238 Romanian children have been granted entry clearance with a view to adoption. Ten applications have been refused, 14 withdrawn and 37 are currently outstanding, 25 of which have been made since 1 April 1991.
