§ Mr. Straw
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what studies have been undertaken by Her Majesty's inspectorate or others funded by his Department on the transfer of education from the ILEA to inner London boroughs, and on the adequacy of the level of services, and resources, available to education services in inner London.
§ Mr. Kenneth Clarke
My Department, supported by Her Majesty's inspectorate, is monitoring closely the performance of the 13 inner London local education authorities.
The 13 new authorities have received generous increases in their standard spending assessments for education—an 18 per cent. increase in 1991–92—and in addition are sharing £70 million of inner London education grant this year.
