To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the budget of the Health Education Council for each year from 1978–79 to 1986–87, expressed as actual expenditure and as a percentage of total National Health Service spending for England.

The administrative expenses of family practitioner committees and their total expenditure on family practitioner services (net of patients' charges) have also been included. Figures used represent annual outturn figures, not adjusted for inflation.
