§ Ms. Richardson
To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will state for each year since 1979 in England and Wales(a) the number of births, (b) the number of live births, (c) the live birth rate, (d) the maternal mortality rate, (e) the perinatal mortality rate, (f) the forceps rate as a percentage of deliveries and (g) the caesarean rate as a percentage of deliveries.
§ Mrs. Currie
[holding answer 9 May 1988]: The available information is given in the table. The change in the method of collection of national (England and Wales) hospital data between 1985 and 1987 means that there will be no English data analysed for 1986 and 1987 on mode of delivery. Hospital statistics for Wales from 1982 are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales. The data shown for 1987 are provisional.
§ Mr. Lilley
I and my right hon. Friend have received a number of representations from the oil industry.
