§ 36. Mr. Chapman
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the percentage of United Kingdom energy needs in the year 2000 which will be met by coal, oil, gas, nuclear and renewables; and how these proportions vary from the present.
§ Mr. Michael Spicer
My Department has not published such estimates for several years. Experience of the energy market has shown that changes in the future composition of energy demand cannot be forecast with any certainty.
§ Mr. Cecil Parkinson
In 1987 the proportion of energy used which was produced in the private sector was 74 per cent.; this compares with 41 per cent. in 1979.
