§ Mr. Alfred Morris
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent representations his Department has received from the Manchester Council for Voluntary Service; what reply is being sent; if any action is to be taken; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gummer
A series of representations about rate reform has been received in recent months from the Manchester Council for Voluntary Service both direct and via the right hon. Member for Manchester, Gorton (Mr. Kaufman), the hon. Member for Stretford (Mr. Lloyd) and the right hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe (Mr. Morris). The latest letter from the council asks a number of detailed questions about the community charge and will be answered shortly.
I have recently agreed to a request by the hon. Member for Manchester, Withington (Mr. Bradley) for a meeting with representatives of Greater Manchester voluntary groups.
