asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will propose at the next meeting of the Council of Finance Ministers that the budget of the European Assembly should be reduced by the sum which the European Court determined recently had been unlawfully granted by that Assembly to certain political parties; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what is the sum, expressed in pounds sterling, which the European Court determined had been granted unlawfully by the European Assembly to certain political parties; and how much of the total was distributed to British political parties.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, further to his reply dated 7 May, Official Report, column 137, concerning the appropriations for the EEC budget, if he will provide the figures for 1972 to 1985 in terms of pounds sterling.

The information is set out in the table. Details of the 1972 budget are not readily available. The United Kingdom was not of course a member of the Community at that time.
