§ Lord Mulley
asked Her Majesty's Government:
What replies they have made to representations received from the broadcasting authorities and independent radio stations concerning the need for a review and amendment of copyright law and their views on the desirability of having common practices in this field within the European Economic Community.
§ Lord Lucas of Chilworth
The Government took account of views submitted by the broadcasting authorities and the Association of Independent Radio Contractors in preparing the copyright sections of the Cable and Broadcasting Act 1984, and will be making additional proposals in regard to broadcasting copyright in a White Paper which is expected to be published in April. The association made a further submission in November 1985 to which the Government have replied that they see no case for imposing harmonisation in regard to royalties paid by Community broadcasters for material included in their broadcasts or for statutory licensing of such material.
