§ Mr. Alfred Morris
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what study his Department has made, or commissioned, of the cause, incidence and treatment of subacute sclerosing parencephalitis; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Whitney
The Department has not commissioned a specific study in this field. However, I understand that the public health laboratory service communicable disease surveillance centre, London, is continuing surveillance of the number of cases arising. I am told that the association with the measles virus is established and vaccination against measles is the only known method of reducing the incidence of the disease.
