§ 20. Mr. Wareing
asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland which parts of the report of the Kilbrandon inquiry he finds acceptable and which unacceptable; and if he will make a statement.568W
§ Mr. Hurd
As long as a majority of people in Northern Ireland wish to remain part of the United Kingdom, proposals which affect that constitutional status cannot be acceptable to Her Majesty's Government. For the inquiry's proposals to work, they must be acceptable to both communities in Northern Ireland. I found the analysis in the report interesting and stimulating.
