§ Mr. Terlezki
asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether training in the skillcentre in Cardiff in the field of plumbing, heating, ventilation, electrical, building, civil engineering, small workshops and "high tech" is in the process of being closed; whether the City and Guilds of London craft certificate in these trades will continue to be obtainable there; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Nicholas Edwards
I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the classes in plumbing, heating and ventilation are being closed in 1984–85 and are being replaced by a composit course in domestic central heating. The electrical course is being discontinued, but a second class in radio, television and electrical servicing is being formed and a class in electronic office machinery is being opened. There are no plans to close any other existing building, civil engineering or "high tech" classes. Small workshop training has never formed part of the curriculum at the Cardiff skillcentre. The replacement classes in domestic central heating and radio, television and electrical servicing will still lead to City and Guilds of London craft certificates.
