§ Mr. Donald Stewart
asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what is the status and purpose of the joint radar project with the United States of America known as Cold Witness;
(2) what is the status of the joint programme with the United States of America to install an over-the-horizon radar in England; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Butler
[pursuant to the reply, 3 December 1984, c. 50]: The United Kingdom and United States are collaborating in a joint programme of studies aimed at testing the feasibility of siting an over-the-horizon radar system in the United Kingdom. These studies are at a very early stage and there are at present no firm plans for implementation. The project is no longer called Cold Witness.
