asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs on what proportion of 85W votes in the United Nations the member states reached an agreed position in 1982; and on how many occasions the member state holding the Presidency of the Council of Ministers spoke on behalf of the Ten in that year.
§ Mr. Hurd
In 1982 there were 179 votes in the United Nations General Assembly, of which the Ten voted together on 74. A further 196 resolutions were adopted by consensus to which the Ten contributed. Overall the Ten adopted a common position on 72 per cent. of the resolutions which came before the Assembly. The Presidency spoke on behalf of the Ten on 90 occasions.
