§ Mr. Eastham
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations have been made to his Department to date by local retailers, Manchester city council and Greater Manchester council expressing concern about the future of Manchester city centre as a regional shopping centre.
§ Mr. Giles Shaw
Representations have been made by the two authorities about the effect on the regional centre of developments proposed in two district shopping centres. No direct representations have been received from local retailers, but they were represented at a meeting between officers of the Department and the two local authorities at which problems associated with the implementation of the structure plan's shopping policies were discussed.252W
