§ Mr. Stainton
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the reasons why, under the Pay Code sanction, contracts for companies with the East Anglian Health Authority affecting heating and ventilation maintenance were barred by the Department of Health and Social Services circular between November 1977 and January; and why the ban was not communicated direct to the firms by his Department.112W
§ Mr. Ennals
Action on placing contracts with member firms of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors Association was suspended for about two weeks in January while discussions were held with the association about its pay settlement. Arrangements were made to inform the association centrally and health authorities were asked to explain the situation to individual firms as necessary.
