§ Mr. Gwilym Roberts
asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many full- and part-time appointments, respectively, are made by him which are not subject to regulation by the Civil Service Commission; what is the total sum paid annually as salary and expenses for such appointments; and if he will take steps to reduce the number of such posts.
§ Mr. John Grant
The total number of paid full- and part-time appointments is 13 and 148 respectively. The estimated total annual cost for salaries and fees in 1976–77 is £300,000. No useful estimate416W of expenses is possible without incurring disproportionate costs. I keep under review the number of appointments to be made and ensure that there are no more than are needed for the work to be done.
