§ Lord AVEBURY
asked Her Majesty's Government:
How many non-patrial citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies resident in India have applied for vouchers under the special voucher scheme since an annual quota became available to such persons in 1972; how many special vouchers have been offered over the same period; how many of the vouchers offered have not been taken up; how many applications have been rejected; and how many remain to be dealt with.
§ Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS
The recorded number of applications for special vouchers in India since 1972 is 7,470. The noble Lord will know that it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government not to disclose the number of special vouchers allocated to individual countries. The number of vouchers offered since 1972 and not taken up is approximately 1,500. No record has been made of the number of applications rejected. Many of those applying change their plans or may prove ineligible. It is not therefore possible to say how many cases remain to be dealt with.
House adjourned at ten minutes past eight o'clock.
