§ Mr. Patrick McNair-Wilson
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek to ensure that information giving full details of the Regulations relating to the importation of animals and the existing rabies legislation is made available at the point of embarkation to all persons visiting the United Kingdom by sea or air; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Strang
I have been asked to reply.773W
It is impossible to make such information available at every possible point of embarkation worldwide, but details of our animal import regulations are available from our embassies overseas. Posters describing our regulations and the penalties for infringement will be on 774W display in appropriate languages in European countries, including at the main embarkation points. Shipping and air lines are not permitted to accept animals for this country without a boarding pass to show that an import licence has been issued.
