asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, with a view to protecting purchasers of retail goods, they will take the necessary steps to end the current practice, widespread among manufacturers producing goods to be displayed conventionally on shelves, of marking goods with arresting and ineradicable figures suggesting that they are for sale at reduced prices.


: The Director General of Fair Trading has issued a Consultative Document putting forward proposals for the control of all bargain offers. He is currently considering the response to these proposals.
