§ Q33. Mr. Grimond
asked the Prime Minister if he will direct all Departments to carry out a review of the extra work which has been laid upon local authorities within the last five years by the central Government, with a view to reducing the cost of it by at least as much as the reduction in the rate support grant.
§ The Prime Minister
No: Departments are aware of the need to minimise the additional burdens which are placed on local authorities, and the rate support grant settlement for 1977–78 took account of their existing duties and activities.
