asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated total saving to date as a result of the current rents freeze to the tenants of each of the housing authorities of Glasgow, Paisley, Clydebank, Renfrew Burgh, Rutherglen, Denny and Dunipace, Saltcoats and Cowdenbeath.

All tenants in these areas will benefit from the freeze, which ends on 15th May. To date the total saving to tenants is estimated approximately as follows:

In the cases of Glasgow, Clydebank and Cowdenbeath compulsory increases were imposed under default orders arising from the Housing (Financial Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1972 in February 1974 and further compulsory increases would have been due in February 1975 but are prohibited by the freeze.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the totals paid in rent rebated from October 1972 495W until now by the council house tenants of each of the housing authorities of Glasgow, Paisley, Renfrew Burgh, Saltcoats, Denny and Dunipace, Cowdenbeath and Clydebank; and what is the estimated difference between the above figures and the corresponding figures resulting from implementation of the Housing Finance Act 1972 in October 1972 without the subsequent rents freeze commencing March 1974.
