§ Mr. Brittan
asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will specify, in view of the statement made by him in his Budget speech that the proposed increases in electricity prices will mean price increases to domestic consumers averaging about 30 per cent. on bills reaching most of them from the beginning of August, the estimated number and percentage of consumers who will suffer increases above 50 per cent. and above 70 per cent., respectively.
§ Mr. Eadie
The electricity price increases will average about 30 per cent. and for most consumers the first bills at the new rates should be sent out folfollowing their meter reading falling in the three months beginning on 1st August. It is estimated that less than 5 per cent. of consumers will have increases in their bills exceeding 50 per cent. and virtually none will have increases exceeding 70 per cent.
