48. Mr. R. C. Mitchell
asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consultations he has had with local education authorities regarding the setting up by those authorities of special units dealing with children with behavioural difficulties; and whether he will set up an inquiry into the problem with a view to producing national guidance.
§ Mr. Prentice
In recent years a number of local education authorities have introduced a variety of special units and arrangements for children with behavioural difficulties, and Her Majesty's inspectors are taking a close interest in their development. I hope shortly to initiate discussions with local authority and teacher associations on behavioural problems in schools.
