asked the Attorney-General, of those cases commenced in the High Court during the year 1972, how many were settled prior to discovery; how many between discovery and the date of trial; how many on the date of trial but before the commencement of the hearing; and how many before the case was concluded.

Of the 6,560 actions set down for trial in the Queen's Bench Division and disposed of in 1972, 545 were settled on the date of trial and 3,480 were otherwise settled or withdrawn. No further information is available as to the stage in the proceedings at which a case is settled.
