§ 60. Mr. Callaghan
asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the death by drowning of a four-year-old boy in the canal at Cardiff Docks, and that there have been six previous deaths in similar circumstances; and if he will give a general direction to the British Transport Docks Board to take protective measures to prevent a recurrence of these tragedies.
§ Mr. Galbraith
I was very sorry to learn of this accident, as was the Docks Board. But I am not aware of any practical measures that could have been taken to prevent it, nor do I think that occurrences of this kind, tragic as they are, could properly form the subject of a general direction.
The Board tells me that it has no record of the other accidents.
