asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the nature of the representations on control of the police made to him recently by the Local Authority Associations; and what reply he has made.

On 1st July a deputation from the County Councils' Association represented to me that the standing joint committee, as now constituted, should become a committee of the county council, the powers of the chief54W constable remaining unchanged. I informed the deputation that their views would be fully considered.
