asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will clarify his amended requirements for dairy bull licences as to what will be the basis of the test, or tests, for the minimum butterfat content as farmers are finding this somewhat difficult to understand.

One of the requirements for the new dairy bull licence introduced on 1st October, 1956, is that the dam and the sire's dam must each have attained in one lactation a prescribed minimum percentage of butterfat content. The actual percentage in any milk yield is calculated and supplied to the owner of the animal by the appropriate milk recording organisation and is based on the results of all the butterfat tests made by that organisation during the lactation period. A percentage based on fewer than five tests during the lactation period is not acceptable for the purpose of determining eligibility for the dairy bull licence.
