§ Sir A. Bossom
asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will consider making the calf-rearing subsidy payable at six months old on all calves of qualifying breeds.
§ Mr. Heathcoat Amory
This is done exceptionally with spring-born calves in hill areas which are customarily sold at the autumn sales; but in general eight months is the minimum age at which it232W can be decided whether a calf is likely to develop into a suitable animal for beef. I would therefore not be justified in making the change suggested.
