§ 99. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when was the last occasion on which the French Government was officially informed about the attitude of Her Majesty's Government with regard to the Channel Tunnel; and whether, in view of the French Government's wish to start work on this project, he will now announce that Her Majesty's Government have no objection to this, provided the necessary money and resources are foreign.
§ Mr. Turton
No record can be found that the Channel Tunnel project has ever formed the subject of an official communication to the French Government.
With regard to the second part of the Question, I cannot add to the answer134W
showing the countries visited, and the cost in each case; and what arrangements have been made for visits from September, 1955, until July, 1956, for such visits by hon. Members of both Houses.
§ Mr. Turton
I do not consider that the expenditure of time and labour required to answer the first part of the Question would be justified.
As regards the second part of the Question, the following arrangements have so far been made for outward visits under the auspices of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Information Departments of the Foreign Office for the period September, 1955, to July, 1956.
given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation on 30th November.
