§ 65. Mr. Sorensen
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what revision has taken place in respect of African nurses fully trained in this country to enable them more quickly to be appointed as sisters in West African hospitals and so avoid much hardship and resentment among African nurses.
§ Mr. Lyttelton
In Nigeria the period of experience after registration required before appointment as nursing sister has been reduced from three years to two years including training in midwifery. This is also the practice in Sierra Leone. In the Gold Coast the period is four years, but there is a proposal to reduce 35W it to three. In the Gambia the period is three years and a reduction to two is being examined.
