§ 53. Mr. W. Fletcher
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the recent International Monetary Conference and particularly as to its effect upon the present level of the dollar-sterling rate.
§ Mr. Gaitskell:
I assume that this Question refers to the recent Report by the Economic Commission for Europe on the problem of inflation, and also to the Second Annual Report on Exchange Restrictions by the International Monetary 25W Fund. Both these publications have been prepared by the staffs of the organisations concerned and member Governments have no responsibility for either of them. There is, therefore, no reason why they should have any effect on the dollar-sterling rate.
