§ 80. Mr. Russell
asked the Postmaster-General why there has been a reduction 182W in the number of women employed in his Department during the past two years, while there has been a substantial increase in the number of men; and how many women clerks in post offices have been displaced by men.
§ Mr. Ness Edwards
This is due to the decline in the volume of work proper to women and to the inability to recruit sufficient women to fill vacancies. These vacancies have accordingly had to be filled by men. Women clerks in post offices are not displaced by men.
