asked the Minister of National Insurance whether she will draw the attention of the National Assistance Board to the necessity for giving wider discretionary powers to the officers of the board in the granting of special fuel allowances for old age pensioners living alone.330W
§ Dr. Summerskill
The Board have ample powers to adjust allowances to meet special circumstances. Their officers are well aware that these special circumstances may include the need for additional expenditure on fuel. Where this need is established it is taken into account in determining the allowance.
