§ Mr. Haydn Davies
asked the Minister of Works why the eight soldier glaziers who have been working on the hospital and medical school windows of University College, Gower Street, W.C.1, have been withdrawn with about 40 per cent. of the work still to be done; and whether, in view of the importance of the job, he intends to take the necessary steps to see that it is completed.
§ Mr. Tomlinson:
The Pioneers employed on glazing work at University College Hospital were attached to the Ministry's Special Repair Service, which last year, when building labour was very scarce, undertook some work at hospitals on behalf of the Ministry of Health. Owing to demobilisation the numbers of Pioneers have had to be reduced, and replacements could not be supplied from the Special Repair Service without withdrawing glaziers from housing. There is now, however, no serious shortage of glaziers in London and the hospital should not have difficulty in making alternative arrangements.
