The War Savings Campaign opened on 22nd November, 1939. The total of small savings raised between that date and 14th August, 1945, was £3,651,869,779, made up as follows:
£ National Savings Certificates 1,420,336,196 Defence Bonds 835,284,642 Increase in balances due to depositors in Post Office Savings Bank and Trustee Savings Banks 1,396,248,941
