§ Major Carver
asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that valuable agricultural land in a part of Yorkshire, which has been indicated to him, which is already sown with wheat, and of which the grassland has been ploughed up under 2155W the Government scheme, is detailed by his Department for the erection of a factory; and, as this has given great discouragement to local farmers, if he will reconsider his decision in the matter?
§ Mr. Burgin
The land in question was selected as the only site in that part of Yorkshire which fulfilled requirements in all respects. It was in fact the least valuable from an agricultural point of view of several sites considered fully by a representative meeting of agricultural interests held at Wakefield recently. During the past week-end a representative of the Ministry has visited the district to investigate the possibility of securing a suitable alternative site, but without success.
