§ Sir G. Harvey
asked the Home Secretary why extra police stringency has been' adopted during the last few months in the control of taximeter-cabs, especially regarding their condition; and whether, in view of the fact that this new police 2272W activity is arbitrary and irksome and is subject to no appeal, and that both cab-owners and drivers are consequently suffering hardship, he will take steps to modify the stringency of the control?
§ Mr. Lloyd
I am informed by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that no instructions have been given for additional police stringency as regards the control or condition of taximeter-cabs, and he is not aware that there has been any new activity on the part of the Police in this matter. If my hon. Friend will give details of any particular cases which he has in mind, I will ask the Commissioner to investigate them.
