§ Sir J. NALL
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the amounts of the salaries of the Law Officers and the emoluments received or due to each of the present Law Officers, respectively, since the date of their appointment?
§ Mr. SNOWDEN
The salaries of the Attorney-General and the Solicitor-General are £7,000 and £6,000 respectively. Returns of the fees for contentious business are usually rendered annually by the Departments concerned, and even if I were to call for a special return for the purpose of the hon. Member's question, the result would be incomplete and misleading, since it is impossible to give the amounts due at any particular date, the fees not being settled till litigation has been finished. The Civil Service Appropriation Accounts contain each year a statement of the fees paid to the Law Officers of the Crown.
