§ Mr. MADDOCKS
asked the Attorney-General whether his attention has been called to the serious hardships constantly arising by reason of the delay in dealing with applications for permanent maintenance after decree has been made absolute in matrimonial suits, and to the fact that women who have obtained 62W decrees are left penniless for months by reason of such delay; and whether he will give directions to the Department responsible or take some steps to obviate such delay?
§ Sir G. HEWART
I am informed that, owing to the great increase of business of the Divorce Division, the present staff dealing with the class of work referred to in the question is unable to cope with it, having received no additional assistance. The Lord Chancellor and the President of the Divorce Division are, however, negotiating for the appointment of a temporary additional registrar to deal with arrears.
