§ Mr. CROOKS
asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the number of German-owned vessels lying in various ports on the West Coast of South America; and whether consideration has been given to the possibility of buying or hiring these vessels from the Chilian Government?
§ Major HUNT
asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there are at the present time about eighty-eight German ships lying idle, sheltering in the various ports of Chile; and, if so, in view of the shortage of shipping, whether he will arrange with the Chilian Government to hire these ships for bringing grain to this country from the West Coast of South America, California, and the Argentine?
§ Mr. PRETYMAN
The possibility of use being made of the ships sheltering in neutral ports has never been overlooked, and this matter will continue to receive attention.
